Welcome to our newsletter

Dear parent/carer,
As we head into half term, it's a good time to reflect on how our young people can look after themselves.
I urge you to look at the Student Wellbeing page on our website. It contains useful information about issues such as mental health, drug and substance abuse, self harm and bereavement. Full details are listed in the news item below. Keeping our young people safe and healthy is vital and I urge you to talk to them about these issues. The webpage has links to lots of different organisations which I think you will find helpful.
As you may know, we incorporate PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) into our curriculum for every year group. In Year 10 these lessons are put together into whole 'drop down' days. We had one of these today, when students discussed the issues of the day with invited local politicians. You can read more about this below.
Later in the year, the Year 10 students will focus on health and wellbeing. This will include sessions on: how a healthy body helps a healthy mind; LGBT+; mindfulness; smoking and vaping; and information about serious crime in Sheffield.
Thank you for all your support as we head into half term. I hope you have a restful break and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 24 February.
With very best wishes,
Mrs Sarah Sims, Head of Silverdale School
