Welcome to our newsletter

I hope you had a restful break over the holiday. It's been great to see our students getting back into school life with their usual positive attitude.
One thing I want to mention is about parking and traffic outside of school. I am still concerned that thoughtless parking and use of Bents Drive by a small minority of parents/carers are creating safety issues for our students.
So please do not drive down or park in Bents Drive unless it is absolutely vital!
It does not take much effort to park on a different nearby street. Our students have created a Park and Stride Map which shows you other places you can park, which students can walk to (thereby supporting their health too). You can view it here on our website. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
A reminder too that, if you are coming into school (perhaps to drop off equipment for your child or pass on information), please come to main reception first. Our safeguarding procedures mean that all visitors must report to main reception in the first instance.
We've lots of positive coverage this week about the government's decision to choose us as one of only six schools in the country to become a Teaching School hub. You can read more about this in the news stories below. Thank you to all the students who took part in the filming and photographs with the BBC and the Sheffield Star.
We get lots of coverage on social media but did you know that many of our departments have their own Twitter accounts? In each of my newsletters I'll feature one of them - if you're a fan of Twitter, please do follow them. Below is the PE department's feed, which features news of their teams' recent matches in a number of sports.
Our Year 9 students had an assembly this week about their Options Process. There is an evening on Wednesday 22 January, when they can find out more about all the different subjects. And next Thursday we have our Year 11 parents' evening. We also have Year 12 and 13 mock exams this month.
Thank you, as ever, for your help in support in all of this.
With very best wishes,
Mrs Sarah Sims, Head of Silverdale School
