Library
Silverdale has a well-stocked Library (or Learning Resource Centre) for all students and staff to use, and which is open to all at break and lunchtime. Sixth formers are welcome to work in the library at any time.
Our library catalogue can be browsed online at the Reading Cloud. Students can log in to their account using their Silverdale login details.
Y7 and Y8 have fortnightly English lessons in the Library with their English teacher and the librarian. This lesson focuses on:
- finding the right book for the right reader at the right time
- becoming a more confident reader
- developing the habit of reading for pleasure and relaxation.
Silverdale uses the Accelerated Reader programme in Years 7-9 to motivate and monitor students, and assist them on their reading journey.
Choosing books can be overwhelming, so there are some downloadable lists of recommended books available at the bottom of the page.
From Y8, students can volunteer as Student Librarians. This is good fun and promotes responsibility, team work, commitment and organisation – and earns achievement points!
